RUNNING
Barnt Green Sports Club has an active running group, which forms part of the combined Chuggers and Chaingang section.
The Chuggers is a friendly and fun group of runners of mixed ability.
We have runners who just want to run at a gentle pace and for no more than an hour, through to some which are happy to push themselves and run without talking and all the levels in between.
Throughout the year we hold social running events such as a Mulled Wine run at Christmas, a Halloween Run, mystery tour, summer handicap run, etc.

TEAM RUNNING
Running Club Night
Monday evening is our main running night.
We meet around 6:50pm at Barnt Green Sports Club, Margesson Drive, Barnt Green. We set off at 7pm, running for approximately one hour, aiming to all be back for 8pm where a post-run drink at the clubhouse is available, along with shower facilities.
There are 5 groups catering for different abilities, each with a run leader. Run leaders will look out for new people and let you know how things work. We also try to ensure you end up in a group that is the right pace for you. The group run leader will explain the planned route with any stopping places and importantly ensure that no-one gets left behind!
Group 1 Up and Running our equivalent of Couch to 5k. Specific courses run at intervals for new runners
Group 2 Average speed 10.5 – 12 minute miles or 6.3 – 7.3 min/km, running 4-5 miles in total
Group 3 Average speed 9.5 – 10.5 min miles or 6 – 6.5 min/km, running 5 – 6 miles in total
Group 4 Average speed 8.5 – 9 min miles or 5 – 5.5 min/km, running 6.5 – 7 miles in total
Group 5 Average speed 7.5 – 8 min miles or 4.5 – 5 min/km, running 7.5 – 8 miles in total
Depending on weather conditions, we will run off-road and on country lanes. Hi-vis clothing is therefore advisable at all times and when running between September – March, a head or body torch should also be worn for safety.
Membership details will be provided on your first run with us.

RUNNING COACHING
No formal coaching takes place.
However, each group is led by an experienced volunteer run leader, who will help manage pace of each group and keep groups together. (We pride ourselves on setting out and returning together – why go on a club run or ride and end up on your own?)
Many of our runners and riders have gone on to take part in numerous organised runs and rides.
We have also organised ‘From Couch to 5K’ sessions and local Fun Runs through to longer distance runs too.
